An explosion rocked an East Village building in Manhattan Thursday, causing the building to collapse and sending plumes of smoke down Second Avenue.
Injuries were reported at the building, which is at the intersection of East 7th Street, DNA Info reports. The building could be seen fully engulfed in flames just before 4 p.m., and a fire department spokesman said the fire spread to at least two other buildings.
The cause of the explosion wasn’t immediately clear, but authorities told the site that it was consistent with a gas explosion.
