President Barack Obama will travel in July to Kenya, the country where his father was born, for the first time since he entered the White House.
According to a White House pool report, Obama will attend the Global Entrepreneur Summit while in Kenya. White House Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz said the president will hold bilateral meetings in addition to participating in the summit this summer.
“This will be president’s fourth trip to sub-Saharan Africa during his presidency,” Schultz said.
As the AP noted, Obama’s father came to the United States from Kenya for school and returned to his home country after his son’s birth. Though the president’s father has since passed away, Obama does have other family members still living in the country. Schultz did not say whether Obama would meet with family during this trip.
Obama last visited Kenya in 2006 as a U.S. senator.
